Hey everyone, this is Paul from Equipt Expedition Outfitters. I wanted to talk to you for a minute about the canine load bar system that we are just coming out with for all of our vehicles that we have roof racks for. It's a very interesting project.
What we have is the standard roof rail that we use for our roof racks. This is a 200 series, and instead of putting a roof rack on there, we've added load bars. If you look at this, we're using the same feet. This is a lower foot, our 40-millimeter foot. Maybe take a look at the extension here; this is our extrusion for the load bar.
The load bar has the T-slot in the top of it for bolts pointing upward, but if you notice, there's a flap here. This little guy here is for bolts pointing downwards, making it very easy for mounting rooftop tents on the top of your vehicle and keeping the profile very low.
The other thing I wanted to show you is the profile height compared to the shark fin on the back of the truck. We are down to four inches in height using the 40-millimeter feet and this extrusion. It's as low as we can go and still keep above the shark fin, so no shark fin removal. This set weighs 20 pounds, including the mounting rail feet and load bars as they sit on here.
What's lovely about this is that you can take this scenario and add to it. If you want to add another load bar, great. Two load bars, sure. Three, four, five, whatever you want to load to this, you can, and you can make it a flat surface on the top. So if you wanted to do something like mount an awning on the side of the vehicle, great. Load bar front, load bar back, add that, and you can put anything up to a Bat or Manta 270 on here. Phenomenal.
Or if you want to load a rooftop tent on here, put two bars under anything 1,400 millimeters or roughly a two-man or 55-inch wide tent on here, no problem. If you're going to go bigger than that, we suggest three bars just to distribute weight better.
What we do have here is a very economical, lightweight solution. At 20 pounds, this is going to be a fraction of what the roof racks cost, and I think it's a great solution for everybody looking to do something where a roof rack might be redundant. You might not need that.
