Intro

Hi, Paul from Equipt Expedition Outfitters here, and I want to talk to you today about the Eezi-Awn K9 roof rack systems and contrast that against the more popular right now roof rack system that's made out of aluminum 8020 extrusions with some side pieces. It's a very popular rack, and I call it a light-duty rack because I'm used to working with the Eezi-Awn K9 system. So let's talk about some of the differences.

Mounting

First of all, the mounting. The mounting of the 8020 racks are two vertical pieces with your extrusions across in the center. That rack is mounted to the roof in typically three locations: front, middle, and back. The footprint of each one of those feet hooking to your vehicle is roughly 3x1 inches. You're putting a lot of weight on three locations on each side of the vehicle. Compare that to what Eezi-Awn is doing with their rail system on the top of the vehicle. So what they do is we mount this extrusion to those same locations, but what we now have is a set of feet that are pushing down on a full extrusion, meaning that the distribution of the weight across the roof line is a lot more even and spread out, and because of that, it has a lot more capacity on top of the roof line.
