Hi, this is Paul with Equipt Expedition Outfitters, and today I want to talk to you about the best ways to mount an Eezi-Awn Series 1000 or 2000 awning. There are a lot of different ways you can go about this, and some are very simple, while some get a little bit more complicated. So let's go through some of the options.

But first, let's talk about the awning and its shape. What we have here is one of the Series 2000 awnings. If you notice the shape of the awning, it has horizontal planes on the top and the bottom, of course. But on the back, we have an angle here; we have an angle on the bottom and then a vertical surface on the back of the awning. That vertical surface is about two inches high, and that comes into play with our first solution, which I think is quite honestly the most simple.

The back of that awning is completely flat on that surface. That two-inch tall surface runs the full length of the awning and can be accessed through the back of the awning case itself. A great majority of people will find a flat surface they want it mounted to, whether that be a roof rack, the side of a camper, or the side of a trailer, or whatever surface they might have. Drill through that case and bolt it right through the case to that surface. The best solution for that is to use what we call a button head cap screw. What that is, is a rounded head with a hex center, and that way it's a very smooth surface. When the awning material rolls up and goes against that button head, you won't see any damage to the material set, and that's very important.

Now, from there, there are a lot of solutions that you don't have to drill through the back of the awning to make that happen. If you want to use it more as a temporary surface or if you want to be able to move the awning to different locations, what have you, there is a solution, and that's what I have in my hand right here. Now, what this is, is the Series 1000/2000 awning mount, and they do not come with the awnings. These are a separate piece because we have so many people that mount these without mounting brackets, we sell them separately. It also helps with the price of the awning.

Now, what you'll notice on this bracket here is we have an L shape. At the top of this L shape, there's what we call a female welt. Now, that female welt is key to the whole thing. On the back surface of the 1000 and 2000 awnings is a male welt. What that does is you put this up there and slide the male welt of the awning into this female welt here. Now, what that does is that captivates the awning case not only from the top but from the back and the bottom as well. It's a very, very strong mount.

How the awning is held in place on that mount is by this little screw right here, a little set screw, a little guy. Now, what you do with that is you position the mounts where you want on your surface, awning, load bars, wall, whatever. You put your awning in place to where you want that to be, and on the bottom of the case, you drill a small hole through the case to put this set screw, the set screw in this mount, and the mount at the other end of the awning, and that's what holds that awning in place. Eezi-Awn has been using these mounts for going on 40 years. They work, they're strong, they're sturdy, they do the job very, very well.

Now, okay, so maybe there are some applications that you don't want to mount this by drilling holes into something. Well, for the Eezi-Awn racks, our Eezi-Awn K9 roof rack system, what they have developed is what's called an accessory adapter. Now, this accessory adapter, if you look at the profile of that guy, that profile is the reverse of the profile of the side of our roof rack systems. There are two six-millimeter bolts in the top of it that match up with the T-slot on the top of the rack. Mount this in the side of your rack system and put this awning together, and what you end up with is something that looks just like this.

Now, this mount here works just the same. You can adjust it laterally where you want to along the side of the roof rack. You bolt through the back of this mount with some flathead stainless hardware, slide the awning into place, drill your one set screw, and you're good to go.

Now, it's also possible to do this on a van application. Eezi-Awn has been making the Series 1000 and 2000 awnings for decades and decades, and the original application of these awnings, most of them would be putting on old Westphalia vans or Sportsmobile vans. So they needed a van application that they could hook an awning onto a gutter, very similar to the gutter we have here. But what they did is they took that same extrusion, added a couple of things to that extrusion to help with the surface of a gutter mount, added a small piece here that allows the gutter to go in this space here. This goes on here and clamps that gutter in place.

Now, this part here leans against the face or the wall of the vehicle. This piece here sits in the gutter, and this clamps it into place. Then you can put your awning in here and mount it into place. This one's been used for decades as well. It's just a modification of that other application, an awesome little mount there.

I would say three or four out of ten people go with an awning mount. Most folks will mount it right directly to a surface. Now, there are a lot of other companies out there building roof racks. If you like our awnings and want to put them on those racks, see if it's possible to use it without the brackets. If not, you're more than welcome to grab a couple of our brackets and use the adapters that come with your roof rack system.

I hope this information helped a little bit. If you have any questions at all, please give us a call or email us at equiptone.com, and we'd be happy to help. Thank you very much.
