Hi, this is Paul with Equipt Expedition Outfitters, and I wanted to chat with you about something I think is a simple yet elegant solution for what's really becoming a popular item: the Starlink satellite internet system.
Just released, you can go mobile with it, which is such a great boon for the folks that are out traveling the world and exploring new spaces and still want to be connected to the world. That's a great thing, but how do you transport that thing around? I think we've got a solution here that will really work well for most folks out there. It's simple and elegant, like I said. We're using a value box, a 42-liter case, and one of the Allubox RuumX 42-liter case divider systems to put all of this gear safely, securely, dry, dust-free, and in a nice secure box for you to transport. So let's take a look at how all this comes together and see if this works for you.
The key components that we have here in the Starlink system that we need to put away are: one, the receiver, which is fairly sizable; we have the base that it comes with, and that's going to be unique in there; cables, of course, there are more cables than this that are involved here; and then the transmitter for the Starlink itself. What I've got over here is one of our RuumX 42-liter divider systems and all its components, and of course, the case. I threw in a simple neoprene bag and a mesh bag for cables, and I'll show you how that all goes together here in just one second. So let's move on and see how we make that case work for us.
First, what I'd like to do is show you the pieces out of the RuumX system that we're going to use to build our storage box here. These are the items that come with the RuumX set: there is a floor panel that you can either put down with adhesive, peel and stick, or leave it alone. I typically leave it alone. There is a top panel that goes in the lid right here, and you can either put that in the lid or what I've chosen to do is to get one of our extra egg crate foam lid panels and put that in up here at the top as well. That will give more cushioning as the top is closed to hold things in place.
There are two panels that are the perimeter that we're going to be using, and one of four pieces that come for cutting up and dividing into that system. We're not going to do any cutting here at all, which makes it really easy, and out of the package of pins that we have to hold it all together, we're only going to be using two of those pins.
So for my system, what I'm going to do is first put the floor down inside the case. This is really good padding, very dense, it's going to hold it nice and secure. Because I have this piece extra, I'm going to lay it right on top inside here for added protection on the receiver base. Put those items in here, we'll wait on this a minute.
Now, these divider systems, if you look at these divider systems, they've already been pre-cut to fit in the corners. So we're going to have one, two corners here, and another piece, two corners in the other direction, and that way, well, I guess it would be this way, the corners will connect. I'll show you how to do that. So I take that piece, slide it right here inside the case down in the base, take the other one in the opposite direction, the edges match up together, and the corners get this one over here, put this in place over here so that wedges up.
This is where our two pins come in. If you notice these stainless steel pins, one side's a little bit longer than the other, that helps with securing them in place, one side than the other. These go down in the corners, so the corner goes down in here in place like so. Take the other one over here, start one side, start the other side, go down in there and secure the corners.
Okay, so now our perimeter is in place, and that makes it nice and easy. Take this little piece here, slide it right there, okay. So that gets our perimeter in place there. This is now going to install right up in this location here. Let me show you how you do that. So you can see that I put that piece in there, and it goes around each one of the riveted down straps that help with holding the case lid in place when you're there. So our goal is to put this in place so that it's not inhibiting the straps, but also we don't want it to be too close to the edge where the seal on the case closes on the lid and goes in place there.
So you can eye it up, or you can measure out the corners. I'll show you that in our other video how to do that, but what I'm going to do here is I'm just going to eye it up a little bit. We're going to set it in place, best place I can see. What we're going to do is we're going to fold the adhesive back from the corner if I can get it here. So we're going to peel this back here, get it out of the way a little bit, fold it, sneak that under here, and again, center up as best that we want to. See how this goes right here, about where I want it to be, as so. Lower that in place, raise up the back, lay this down in place, like so, and that's about it.
Okay, so now you put this away, turn it around, and you'll see that now that case lid goes down secure, not a problem, and gives us protection on the upside here. Okay, next spot, how do we put all of that stuff in here? Let's get all those pieces together, and I'll show you exactly how that goes.
Alright, so for good measure, let's go over the components we have again. We've got the receiver components, we have the base, we have the transmitter, and we have a cable set. Now all of these items we're going to try to fit in this box safe and secure. I'm going to zoom in a little bit so we can get a better idea of how all these things go in, and we'll take a look at that.
Okay, here we go. So you can see that we have our perimeter in place, our two pieces of perimeter, one here, one here. We have our floor down in there, all in good. I'm adding this just for fun because I have it. We put that right down here in the middle. Of course, we have our egg crate on top, so let's see how all of these pieces fit in here.
Now, the first thing we're going to do is we're going to take our receiver, slide it in, and slide it right down in place. Now, for it to get to this level to fit in here, each time you put this away, you need to go to the stow mode, which will assign this position on this receiver as the most compact it can be. So now that fits down in the base there nice and well, quite honestly, I move it all the way that way as I can to get it into that location. Awesome.
The next thing that we do is we take our base here, and it's so tight that what we have to do on this side is take this side of the device, the wall set, and raise it up just a bit. This guy goes in here, goes down underneath the wall set, and if you look over in these two corners, it's very tight. You can see that the clearances here are incredibly tight. You can slide one leg in, the other leg will fall in place, and what I like about this is it jams these corners down here underneath the wall. The wall all the way down will not allow it to go in place, but with those down in the corner, these two here, these two legs rest on the top of the wall set here, and I think that's a terrific way to support this guy from this guy so that you don't have any damage, and I really like that solution.
The next thing I'm going to do here is take one of our dividers, and these are pre-cut dividers in a short side, and I'm going to take that, I'm going to run it down in here, and I'm going to raise the back legs up just ever so slightly to wedge that in position.
Okay, now that gives clearance and padding between the receiver and the legs so that we're not damaging the back of the receiver at all in that position. Okay, so now that's in tight, this is in tight.
Next, what I've done is I went and got a simple neoprene iPad holder, and this item goes right in there. A couple of ways you can do this: one, simply put it there and it'll be okay. The other thing that I found is that you can take this and you can lift this up and put this item down underneath in this location here, which gives it even more security and less ability to damage itself. Let's show you that.
So, try to back this out, remove my little pad there, bring the legs out, there we go. I'm going to raise this up, so slide this under, put it all right back down in place. Okay, now the legs go back in place, these come in, and the lock, your transmitter is safe and secure underneath that post, it's out of the way of the legs. We raise this back up here, slide that in position, and that holds that in place.
Now, the next item is our cable set, and I just have the short power cable here, but there are other cables that come with it. I got a simple mesh bag, and you can use anything you want to hold all these things, that's perfectly fine, whatever, even another neoprene bag or what have you. But I have this little mesh bag, this holds the cable in place, and as you see down in here, there is plenty of room in here for all sorts of other cables. If you've got extension cords or a longer cable or the other cables necessary for the Starlink, all of that fits in there nice and secure, and you put the lid down and you're good to go.
It makes it very nice. This comes down and just lightly touches here, so it holds it down in place. The legs on the bottom are secure, the legs up here are above, so it's suspended in there very well. This guy is not going anywhere, it's nice and snug, and you've got plenty of extra storage room for your other cabling necessities.
I think this is a wonderful solution for putting away a Starlink to transport anywhere on the planet you want to go. It's watertight, it's dust-tight, it's going to keep it nice and clean, it's going to keep it secure, it's an investment that's important to you, and I really do think that this makes an elegant, simple solution for your Starlink system.
